Italians are the largest foreign community in Barcelona, ahead of Colombians, Pakistanis and Chinese residents. That is 54,036 people on the city register, 12.3% of all foreign residents, and the community has grown almost twentyfold in twenty-two years. It is so large that it no longer works as a single community: people who came to study, people who came to build something and people who have been here half their lives rarely cross paths.

What you will find here

When roots opens, this community will have its own board for asking anything about the city, a member list for whoever wants to be found, and the week’s plans with limited spots: dinners, language exchanges, nights out. And on the dating side you will be able to filter to see only people from this background, or combine it with whichever others you like.

Where this stands

Straight up: roots has not launched yet and this community is forming right now. There are no members or plans to show you, and we are not going to invent a number. What there is, is a waiting list — and whoever gets one of the first spots gets twelve months of full membership free.
